Prepare Your Heart and Mind for Christian Living and Discipleship
The Saint Nicholas Orthodox Oblates Prayer and Study Group explores the invaluable insights and wisdom presented in the book, “The Benedict Option” by Rod Dreher.
Could this be a blueprint for building a community of individuals who love, care for, and support one another in their daily lives?
Join our vibrant spiritual prayer and study group where we practice spiritual disciplines alone and together to unite us to and in Christ.
The Benedict Option Meetings:
The Rule, written by Benedict of Nursia, the founder of Western monasticism, guides our St. Nicholas Oblates and parish members into a new way of seeing and living. As Orthodox Christians, we are admonished to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Renewing the mind takes practice. Through our monthly Saturday morning meetings, we address spiritual inquiries such as stewardship, relationships, authority, community, balance, work, simplicity, prayer, and psychological development.
The Crossroad edition we use not only offers the complete text of the Rule but includes practical and inspiring commentary for 21st-century thinking and living by Joan Chittister, one of the most influential religious and spiritual leaders of our age.
Our session begins with prayer using the Monastic Diurnal, followed by a chapter discussion of The Rule of Benedict. Join the St. Nicholas Western Orthodox oblates on a journey of learning and growth.
The Rule of Benedict Meetings:
Both classes are open to all parish members and guests interested in joining us in this learning and spiritual growth journey.

The Monastic Diurnal
*To be an oblate is a “vocation,” a response to a call from God. It is a means of living a life of
reciprocal prayer and blessings, between a person in the world and the monastic who “left the world.”
